Is it really Monday
Time to find some trouble again
Make a bid for romance
While the dollar stands a chance
Dumb love in the city at century's end
We tap to this line
Dancing on a mirror
There's no disbelief to suspend
It's the dance, it's the dress
She's a concept more or less
Dumb love in the city at century's end
(At century's end)
Nobody's holding out for heaven
It's not for creatures here below
We just suit up for a game
The name of which we used to know
It might be careless rapture
This kid's got the eye
Call it pirate radar
Scooping out the roof for some trend
But there's nobody new
So she zeroes in on you
Dumb love in the city at century's end
(At century's end)
Nobody's holding out for heaven
It's not for creatures here below
We just suit up for a game
The name of which we used to know
By now it's second nature
Scratch the camera
We can grab the locals
Let's get to the love scene, my friend
Which means look, maybe touch
But beyond that not too much
Dumb love in the city
Love in the city at century's end
Ever had a really spontanious, crazy thing happen, with a random individual who happened to cross your path?
When all was said and done, did you ever find complete strangers who witnessed this judging you as 'insane'?
Has it ever inflamed into a real comedy of tragic errors?
We call this 'The Manhattan Transfer'.
“I fully expect him to be here, ” Cashman said Tuesday. “We’re going to figure this thing out together.” A-Rod went 1-for-14 (.071) in the first-round playoff loss to Detroit and is 4-for-41 (.098) with no RBIs in his last 12 postseason games.
1) There aren't any better 3B out there right now, like it or not. Not one has anywhere close to the production A-Rod has given the yankees who is on the free agent market.
2) He has a no trade clause, and he wouldn't let it happen
3) If he stays healthy he will be the new homerun king by the end of his career.
4) I don't think he is nearly as unclutch as anyone says. He was hitting great in the postseason before the Boston collapse of '04, and the last two postseasons he hasn't done shit, but whatever, most of the batting order didn't do s**t.
Agreed. The Yankees simply buy their championships. I don't understand why people glorify a team that buys the best players rather than following the teams that pick their players from farm teams and "cultivate" them into great players. Sure, people like to root for the teams that win, and the Yankees seem a safe bet, but would you really root for a 15-year-old teenager against his 8-year-old brother just because it seems the safer bet when the one at the disadvantage would have to work harder for the win?
I still get a great deal of pleasure out of the thought of Jason Giambi saying he wanted to be in the Hall of Fame and had a better chance with the Yankees. If that bastard had waited ONE MORE SEASON, his name would be there already. How can anyone forget Game 21, the longest winning streak? That was the most kick-ass game and I am so glad I was there. That's a game to tell the grandkids and great-grandkids one day.
And it was won WITHOUT paying a fortune for players who had already proven themselves. The glory is in the risks a team must take, not in the sure things.
It takes more than one good player to win. You can have a great 3B and the rest totally sucking, and that one player won't make a difference. Baseball is about a team, not one player. One can not win it alone.
Silver leaves are spinning round
Take my hand as we go down and down and down
Looking for water
But I lost God in a New York minute
Don't know about you but my heart's not in it
I'm looking for water
I can't breathe the air
Can't raise the fight
'Cause all we've got left is a beat in the night
And I'm
Looking for water
Take my hand as we go down and down
Leave it all behind nothing will be found
I'm looking for water
Looking everywhere
Looking for water
Looking here and there
I'm looking for water
I can't live in this cage
I can't eat this candy
To the ends of the Earth
To this pain in my head
The look in your eyes
That never means never
The dawns early light
Baby dumb is forever
Looking for water
Take a trip take a ride
Through Darktown don’t be shy
Gather by the clocktower take your seats
Glad you’re here it’s for keeps
Festering wounds from years gone by
Toxic waste you buried inside
In Darktown
Take a turn step on down
Through an alleyway you’ll find
By the backstreet trash resides
The underworld you tried to hide
And from a dark corner where walls loom high
You’ll hear the sound of a small child’s cry
In Darktown
Legions of hate schools of fear
Proudly accomplished their mission here
A hidden agenda behind the eyes
For the gifted ones they most despised
They couldn’t do it in the X-rated world
But presided over the boys and girls
In Darktown
It’s all on camera it’s all on film
On the couch in the shower
The stains are there still
Drink to the ones who dished out the marks
Rabid animals right from the start
It’s happy hour shut the beasts away
Come along children it’s time to play
In Darktown
